Allergic Reaction to every Formula I've tried...HELP!

Hello,

We're currently weaning our 7 month old and trying to introduce a formula as his mum is doing a lot of travelling with work (I'm his dad :-)). We've tried HIPP Organic, Babynat, Holle Goat Organic and SMA Lactose Free. Each time he gets a rash, with white lumps anywhere the formula dribbles. He doesn't react to it, is in no discomfort and has no other symptoms of allergy. I've got to survive for a week with the baby whilst my wife travels on business and so far I've opted for the Holle Goat, as it seems to have the least reaction and he'll drink it.

I'm using the formula along side expressed breast milk.

Any ideas? Does this sound like an allergy? Can I carry on with the Holle? Anyone in the same position?

Thanks,

didnt want to leave you hanging. I have no experience of this but my best advice would be talk to your GP/ HV - it may be the case that you need to use a soya based formula but any reaction like this should be checked by a professional.

Not sure if this would be possible but have you considered travelling with your wife and baby ? A week is a long time for a young baby to be away from his mother. It would be difficult for both your wife and your baby to be apart especially for a breastfed baby.

If you could travel, you could bring the baby to her for a lunch time feed (your wife would need to express for comfort whilst away from baby anyway)
and baby can be fed on request evening, overnight and for breakfast in the hotel.

If you can't travel, I second the suggestion to talk to GP/HV there are several prescription only specialist formula available.

mertlev - have a look at this leaflet about formula.

In particular you'll see that soya is not recommended unless there is no other option. There are special formulas in which the cows milk protein has been altered/substituted.

I don't know anything about Holle Goat formula.

My DS had a similar reaction when he first ate cheese - he was tested for allergy but was negative and it stopped after the first few times he had it.

However I did not allow him to have cheese again until I had sought medical advice.

You could try posting on the Allergies board.

Are you in the UK? If so non-allergenic formulas can be prescribed by GP. Also note that goats milk formula not recommended for under 1s.

Go and speak to GP - and if you have medical insurance maybe ask to be refered to specialist to discuss allergy testing. Also you haven't mentioned the regular formulas - what happens when he has them?
