NCT breastfeeding counsellor training

Hi

I am about to sign up for the NCT breastfeeding counsellor training course - the 2.5 year one that ends in you receiving a uni diploma and a licence to practise as a counsellor.

I am doing it for interest and for possible career potential further down the line and wondered whether anyone who has done the course before or is on it now has any words of advice?

Thanks in advance Grin

no advice but wondering how you went about signing up? I've emailed to no avail. Smile

I think sometimes you need to push them a bit, moon as they're rather understaffed. I would email again.

gruffalo I would love to do this. How much time a week/month will you spend on it?

this might help

Shock organic! You traitor! Wink Grin

thanks for that!

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

Moon I emailed the NCT (and every other group I could find that offered training) via their website ages ago - last year I think.

ABM and a couple of the other organisations contacted me and said either that they had no spaces free or didn't offer training in my area.

The NCT emailed a couple of weeks ago to ask if I was still interested as they had some places available on a number of courses. Luckily one was close to me and I have been to the taster session.

Organic the tutor said about 8 hours a week plus the 2.5 hour tutorial once a month. The application pack says 5-7 hours a week, less if you have done other similar courses, have prior knowledge or have recently done a course of (any subject) academic study. There are also residential courses and weekend study days as you are meant to receive 36 taught hours a year. Having said that the course seems to be very flexible in terms of women looking after children or having babies. I am pregnant at the moment and that doesn't seem to be a problem, I think you take it at your own pace within reason.

Hope you both find a course that suits you.
