Constipation on follow on milk

Have switched 7mo old DS onto Aptimil follow on milk for his afternoon feed as I'm back at work. He is still BF morning and evening. Trouble is he is quite constipated now and it's making him really grumpy. Have given him lots of water and fruit etc and I'm starting to wonder if their is a better formula for him that wouldn't cause this problem. Has anyone had experiences in switching formula or gone back to breastfeeding because of constipation?

Aptamil easy digest worked for my DD- I gave it to her until she was about 1 and then switched to cow's milk.

DD became extremely constipated once I stopped breastfeeding when she was 7 months old. In the end I had to resort to lactulose until her digestion got used to the change.

Are you using powdered formula or ready-to-use cartons? Some seem to get constipated on the powdered versions but not on the ready-to-use ones. Also, follow on formula is not really necessary, so you may find stage 1 to be better. I think the follow on has more iron in it which can be constipating.

I would try a first milk rather than follow on milk as it has less iron and may be less constipating.

I was also told that first milk is most similar to breast milk.

has he just been weaned - dd ate some banana at 6 months and was very constipated.

Thanks was a bit worried about him getting enough iron as he is mostly veggie but will have to think of more creative ways as follow on milk doesn't seem like the way to go.
