I'm writing a lecture on breastfeeding: anyone got any interesting resources to share?

I'm putting together an undergrad lecture on infant feeding with a specific emphasis on breastfeeding. I have a good deal of evidence to present to the students already, but was curious to see if anyone had any useful or thought provoking resources to share on this topic. I really want to help the issues come alive to the students despite that fact that most of them are a long way away from having or feeding their own children.

(In particular, I'd like to examine the promotional aspects of breastfeeding (and promotion of breastmilk substitutes) beyond our own country ... so input from anyone with more knowledge of the current Nestle situation than I have would be welcome).

I'm now working my way through all the resources - thank you so much for guiding me to these, as it means I can offer the students a good range of online sources as well as the academic papers I already have.

Peppapighastakenovermylife - that is a very kind offer. What kind of lectures do you give? [interested emoticon]

I lecture in child heath / development and have a background in psychology (and am a breastfeeding researcher) Smile. I have a couple of different presentations and resources if you like - from the basics of how breastfeeding works, health benefits etc to challenging the different attitudes towards it including formula promotion etc. Welcome to it if you like Smile

OP, if you wanted to recommend a shorter book than The Politics of Breastfeeding I would recommend "The Problem with Breastfeeding - a personal view" by James Akre.

I heard Gabrielle Palmer speak and one of the points she made was AFASS - ie that any feeding method should be affordable, feasible, acceptable, sustainable and safe. Really good (I think) for challenging acceptance that bottles are the 'normal' way to feed a baby. More on this from the WHO guidelines on complementary feeding and feeding in emergencies.

Frozen north - if you could let me have your email address I will email you some interesting stuff. Can't do it on here or my anonymity will be betrayed! ;)
