Advice please on feeding DS 10mo

Could do with some advice...

DS is 10 months, he was bf with one ff dream feed at 10pm from birth to starting solids around 5 months. He dropped the milk feeds then over the following few weeks so that by 6 months we were (and still are) on a bf morning and bedtime, with the dream feed at 10pm. He has 3 meals a day and snacks.

So, my conundrum...
The evening bf before bed is getting less and less, but he's still taking 6oz at the dream feed. This is normally night time milk as it's more filling and will keep him going to 6am. Morning bf is much better and he takes a fair bit.

When do I stop the dream feed? Am worried if I reduce or stop it then he'll start to want milk in the night again, but I wonder whether this extra milk feed is why he's not taking much when he goes to bed.

Any thoughts gratefully recieved Grin

i think that at 6 months i'd want my baby to be having more than 3 milk feeds a day tbh!

i definitely wouldn't drop the dreamfeed if he is already dropping the evening breastfeed by himself

argh, sorry, of course he is 10 months now, not 6. it would have worried me at 6!
at 10... i'd still want to keep the dreamfeed!

I was a little worried when he did it at 6mo, but the HV assured me as long as he had milk or milk based food he'd be ok. Lots of cereal with milk and yoghurts ensued!!

Guess I'm just wondering how long I dream feed for? Will my milk supply reduce if he's only having one proper feed in the morning? The evening one is so hit and miss.

it will adapt to his needs. so yeah, if he is basically dropping the evening feed then your body will adjust to only make enough for the morning one

i guess you might find that if you stop the dreamfeed he takes more milk in the morning and maybe increases the bedtime feed?

it won't hurt to try

Thanks, I might give it a try and see what happens ... then quickly reinstate if he starts waking more in the night!!
