Am I SO boring as all this?

My 11 week old dd has started constantly interrupting breastfeeds to stare around. At the moment a feed is

Suck 5 times
stare at wall light for 30 seconds
Suck 5 times
turn away and stare at wall for 1 minute
suck 5 times
smile and giggle
suck 5 times
doze off still sucking
snooze sucking for 5 mins til Mummy's nipple is agony
wake and stare about.
wait until bra is fastened up and then wail

repeat as necessary

I'm worried she's not getting enough to eat - though she still has lots of wet nappies - and the constant snacking means she's not really hungry enough to take a full feed. She's lousy at sleeping too so this 'bittyness' isn't helping with that either.

please someone tell me this is a phase!!!! How can i get to...well ... focus for want of a bet word?

this is normal

she is becoming aware of the world

it will pass

alternatively, try feeding in a quiet place for a while, or offering again a little bit later if she doesn't seem too interested

Hi Chibi. Thanks for this & sorry about spelling- one handed typing & all that. Its just she is interested in & shouting loudly for food when we start but then almost immediately goes into this routine. Will try to find a quiet place but her current fascination is wall and ceiling light fittings - maybe will be interior designer when grows up :) - and they're everywhere.

What chilbi said. I also generally take ds and wait a bit if he isn't concentrating. He'll feed later and more efficiently when if has a proper appetite iykwim. Not paying don't feed on demand...just be sure there is a demand if that makes sense! Smile

I also remember reaching a point at around three months where ds didn't need to feed as often (more efficien i guess) but i kept trying to shove a nipple in his gob as though he was a newborn. Took me ages to realise his fussy refusal to latch on was because he wasn't hungry... Blush

I guess what i'm saying is try not to worry about how much she's getting. She'll let you know when she's hungry! Aslong as those yet nappies keep on coming she'll be fine!

Thanks MoonfaceMama. I hadn't thought of it that way but you're right. I've been trying to feed her the same as I did a few weeks ago and I guess she's moved on from that!

I am having same problem, helps if I feed lying down in bed with curtains closed.
