expressing colostrum in advance

Hi everyone, would be grateful for some advice.
I am currently 35 weeks with baby no 2 and have been wondering about expressing and storing a bit of colostrum in advance just in case the new baby has any feeding issues. I can express some now and thought I could maybe put some in syringes and freeze it? Is this mad?

I had terrible problems BF my DD1, lots of bad advice and the midwives basically insisted I give formula as she was 'dehydrated' (she probably wasn't, looking back) - I felt like a total failure and got PND. DD1 was consequently totally formula fed until 8 weeks when I relactated, and then she was solely BF from about 12 weeks, but by god, it was hard work to get BF re-established.

What does everyone think? Has anyone else expressed pre-birth?

here is a previous thread about this

Hope it helps.

I am so impressed at your relactation! Grin Grin Grin

Personaly i think why not? It can't do any harm and may be usefull. It will at least help you feel more comfortable in those early hormonal days knowing it's there should you need it.

crikeybadger thanks for the link to the thread. It never occurred to me to search for one because I thought my request/ idea was a bit wierd....

moonfacemama you are right, I think it is about having the security and comfort in those early hormonal days!

Going to go ahead and do it, in fact have just done a test run and got a syringe full for the freezer. Sure the midwives will think I am barking, but I don't care.
