Co-sleeping BF 3 month old = backache...

I am EBF 3 month old DS, and he always starts the night in the crib, as he sleeps through til 6am but the last few days has started waking again around 3am. when he wakes up for feed (after DH has tries to settle him to see if he is actually hungry) he then gets into bed with me, and we kick DH out into spare room(both get good sleep - good times, have to make two beds in morning and the crib - bad times).

anyway, we have done this since DS arrival, but recently have started getting terrible a backache as a result of feeding lying down...i havent changed my position , was wondering if was due to DS being bigger now than he was say 8 weeks ago? Any tips for comfy bf-ing lying down whilst half asleep?

Have you tried pillows in the small of your back behind you to stop you rolling back over? Or even one in between your legs is good as it relieves strain on your hips and lower back.
I used to feed in bed like this and it really helped. I think you are right that it's because your DS is a bit bigger - it gets harder to curl yourself round as they get bigger.

Hope this helps.

I went through a period of having a huge ache in the one shoulder and my back - think it was roughly the same time - and it lasted a few weeks. I propped myself with pillows which helped.

At about 6mo I started lying on my back again which enabled me to relax more - now DD is nearly 10m we lie at odd angles to each other all over the bed :D

I had this at around 3 months too. We converted DS' cot into a bedside one and I used to scoot him over into it after feeds. That helped because I could sleep in any position. If I fell asleep feeding and didn't move him because I was particularly tired or whatever it wasn't so bad, presumably because it was occasional as opposed to a permanent sleeping position.

there isnt room next to our bed to put the cot right next to it, crib is in our room though. will dig out my pregnancy pillows and put them to use again...thanks for the tips ladies

I find a pillow in the small of my back helps with the actual feeding as I can lean against it. When DS was properly co-sleeping with me, I could semi-recline on the pillow after feeds so I was halfway between on my back and on my side. I hate lying on my back!
