Does starting aerobic exercise affect my breast milk production or the quality of my milk - have 7 week old little boy who is exclusively breastfed and weighing in at 13lb 6oz?

no it wont affect your milk at all

but remember you need to take it easy as the hormones affect your joints and ligaments and you can over stretch and pull things easily

watch your abdominals as its all still coming back together in there

you need an industrial strength sports bra and supportive trainers

And remember to drink plenty. More than before to make sure you don't get dehydrated. I'm sure I sweat more when I'm breastfeeding and although it's not supposed to effect milk production I always feel dreadful if I'm feeding and a bit dry.

no probs at all, I am running 3 times a week and it hasn*t affected supply at all.
agree with the plenty of fluid and proper sports bra.

Thanks girls - will remember to get the high velocity sports bra!! I will take it easy to start with, but just feeling so fat and frumpy, and with being tired, I just need a natural high that isn't sugar/candy bar!! My bum is growing....

Mollycuddles - just wondered - do you sweat more all the time or just when exercising? I have been getting really bad night sweats where I am literally soaking until the first feed of the night, and then it eases off - is this normal?

skilpads - you need to go to your gp and have a blood test to rule out thyroid problems.

i too have bad night sweats which eases after first feed my dd is 6 weeks is this not normal then?

I'm not a doctor, but AFAIK soem women get this caused by swinging hormone levels

but its also a symptom of post partum thyroiditis, which can be quite hard to spot as the symptoms are similar to how most new mums feel - tiredness, being hungry, lack of sex drive, temperature fluctuations, anxiety, loss of concentration, depression, cant lose weight etc

so worth visting gp for blood test, they will also check hormone levels
