How to Gradually switch to Formula ?

I am about to go on a 3 week trip abroad and plan to be breastfeeding for most of it but once DD2 turns 3 months I will gradually introduce formula , also since at times it will not be possible to bf .

What is the best way to do this ?

Also, I am undecided abt whether or not to take the pump with me. At the moment I express in the am and also if I miss a feed to keep supply up ... If I miss a feed whilst away, will my supply be comprimised ?

At the moment, DD2 is on the GF routine except that I do not do the 10pm feed , so roughly 7/7.30am , 10.30amish, 2.30pm ish 5pm and 6.30 split feed and pretty much as much as she wants from 5pm onwards to really top her up for the night.

Any suggestions really welcome ! I leave next Thursday on a 12hr flight to the UK on my own with a 2 yr old and a 10.5 week old !

If I understand you correctly you are taking dd2 with you on the trip so it doesn't sound like you would really need the pump to me. I started using half formula and half bm when ds was 7 months old and he took to it just fine.

you cld just start by substituting one of the usual bm feeds with formula (and gradually increase the formula feeds as thery suit you). When you start missing bfs, your supply will decrease, but you will want this to happen if you are trying to switch to formula (to avoid mastitis).

I'd be inclined to take the pump just in case.

Having been abroad with a baby I wouldn't complicate things by trying to introduce formula at the same time - I think that's what your post is saying.

I took a breast pump - but that was to get milk to mix with baby rice as ds was 6 months.
