Vasospasm - any healthcare professionals that have helped?

I have terrible vasospasm pain which I think is caused by my DS squashing my nipple during BF.

I'm assuming it's this rather than thrush as the nipple changes from white to purple and back to pink, can happen up to 5 times between feeds. I'm now mostly expressing rather than feeding and it's slightly better but still get the pain.

Does anyone know of any health care professional/consultant in the London area with any experience of this (happy to go privately). My GP refuses to give me more than 10mg a day of Nifedipine (literature suggests 30mg) and she is taking my word for it on the diagnosis, she hasn't a clue and is unsupportive.

DS is 11 weeks old and have tried just about everything I can that doesn't require prescription. I'm desperate to carry on feeding him, any suggestions gratefully received.

Oh I hope you find someone to help.
I think I had vasospasm in the early days of bfing and it was agony. My GP was useless also.
My ds had tongue tie which was the cause I think. It eventually sorted itself and am still bfing him at 21 mo but what awfulness at the beginning.
I say 'I think' because everyone was completely useless and every referral I was given (to look at tongue tie) was cancelled. In the mean time his tongue tie must have loosened and the vasospasm went.
Can you contact your local LaLeche League people? I ended up emailing them a few times and they were very supportve. I was in London at the time also.

Sorry I am not much help but I am so sorry for the pain you are experiencing and I hope you find someone to support and help you x

Thanks for your words of support. Have tried the NCT breastfeeding helpline several times, not LeLeche league though.

DS did have a tongue tie release last Friday, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference so far.

Well done on BF your DS for so long, I'm so jealous. Don't think I'll make it to 6 months at this rate (currently 3 months.)

You know things might start to gradually improve now your ds has had the tie released. I do hope so.

I think it was around 3/4 months before bf-ing stopped being agony for me.

Do try the LaLeche lot. They will be so happy to help I'm sure.

3 months is a massive achievement - you have worked so hard to get there! Feel extremely proud of yourself!

Lots of people on here have had experiences of bf-ing a tongue-tied baby - might be worth re posting about tongue-tie release as someone might be able to help!

All the best Smile
