my 7 week old is still b-feeding every 3 to 4 hours through the night, and my husband is going to start doing the 11 o'clock feeds... can the ebm be left out of the fridge for a few hours to come up to room temp, or should it be straight from the fridge, heated and then used?

seems a bit of a schlep in the middle of the night with him upstair and the milk in the fridge downstairs - he'd be in a lather by the time it was ready...?
any advice, please?

This is what we do. Sorry would add links and go into further detail, but I'm too tired and my brain hurts. I'm sure someone else will come along and explain properly for you.

btw A 7 week is not still bf every 3-4hours, this is the norm, I think not the exception

if it helps I fed my 30 week prem baby in Neonatal Intensive ebm milk for 2 months...the normal practice for myself and the MWs was to take ebm from the fridge and run bottle (or in our case syringe at first) under a warm tap to get it up to room temp or just above...never did any of the wee ones (my ds was just over 2lbs)who are very delicate any harm, however once out the rule was to use all that is in contact with baby or you via bottle or chuck...the rest in expressing bottle or storage container get back in fridge within 30mins...so I still take out small amounts at a time and warm it for DS...now he is a fussy 5 monther who likes it warmed!!

Hi expressed milk can be out of the fridge for up to 6 hours. If you do leave it in the fridge you don't have to heat it. My dd takes it straight from the fridge. Don't be alarmed if your milk looks as if it has 'split'. This is normal. Tell your dh to just swirl it till its mixed in again.

Hooray! 5 and a half hours of sleep! I'm positively delirious! DH had no problems with the milk, and DS took it all no problems...
Thank you girls!

Thats great! Its amazing how much better things seem after you get a decent sleep! Occasionally my dh will give my dd a bottle of expressed milk at the early morning feed (i find it ok getting up during the night but struggle at the early morning feed). This lets me get a bit of a long lie. One morning I got to sleep till 10.30am! What a treat and I felt amazing. Plus, because my dd had been up during the night and taken a full feed my boobs didn't feel too uncomfortable. Hope you get another good sleep tonight op.
