question about formula

I've been doing a mix of BF , EBM and formula and have been using Aptimil cartons as only giving 1-2 FFs a day. I've seen that SMA so a large 1 litre carton that lasts 48 hours in fridge, but sis tells me that you should stick to one brand as they cause different stomach bacteria. Anyone know if this is true? Also is it ok to mix EBM and formula in same bottle?
thanks x

I wouldnt change all the time but if you wanted to switch to sma rather than aptamil then it should be ok. Personally I wouldnt mix breastmilk and formula.

No reason to stick to one brand.

I don't understand the stomach bacteria idea, sorry. Where has your sister heard this?

Mixing ebm and formula in the same bottle is prob not a good idea. I cant think why it would be harmful, but if the baby does not finish the bottle, it's a waste of ebm.

Sorry, I can't remember your story, jandmum - but doing ebm, formula and bf is the hardest way to feed a baby :( :( Are you able to find real life help with feeding so you can make things a little easier?

I think it's best not to switch around daily, but a few switches won't hurt. I did notice everytime I switched lo had a runny belly for a few days.

This guide to formula feeding is very informative.

You can definitely try the SMA - no need to stick with Aptamil just because that is what you started with. Just check your little one is ok and comfortable as some babies react differently to different formulas.

The reason I'm doing a mixture is that LO constantly falls asleep at the breast, sometimes in less than 5 minutes so breast feeding can take hours of trying to keep waking her, so then I express and she takes a bottle OK but sometimes haven't expressed enough so give formula. I have an almost 3 year old and being able to get DH to give a bottle has been essential so that I can give DS some attention. Am seriously considering now though just switching to formula as my pump packed in this morning (very annoying as I can't find the receipt!) and this time around it just seems like it will be simpler. x
