What size nursing bra should I buy?

Hi,

I am trying to be prepared and buy things I need for when the baby gets here. If I want to breastfeed what size nursing bra should I get - presumably my breasts will change size when the milk comes in? Or do they allow for that and you just get your normal size?

Thanks

If you get measured in somewhere like Mothercare they seem to be able to tell what size you will need.

You could also contact your local branch of the nct They should be able to put you in touch with a fully trained bra fitter.

The usual advice is get 2 cup sizes up from what you're at at 36 weeks, but get them fitted on the loosest chest fitting to allow for your rib cage going down.

Don't wash or take them out of packets. The ones I bought from John Lewis and mothercare before DD was born turned out to be useless and as I'd washed them I couldn't take them back.

I bought one of the Carriwell ones from the NCT www.nctshop.co.uk/Carriwell-Seamless-Drop-cup-Nursing-Bra-Black/productinfo/1197B/ which isn't fabulous on support, but is great for mooching around the house post-birth as it is really comfy and supportive enough, and allows for a bit of growing room (I found the sizes run generous, I started out a 36E, and have gone up to F, and the Medium fits me), once my milk had come in and things had settled down again, I ordered bras online. Don't measure as soon as your milk comes in - you will have boobs like footballs! They do go down again within a couple of days.

My NCT BF lady suggested down a band size and up a cup size from 38 weeks, which was spot on.

If you do follow Porcelain advice, which is excellent btw, make sure you take your measurements on the first day of week 38.

I had DC1 at 38+1 Smile

I would tend to recommend measuring at 38 weeks and do the underband down one and cup size up 1, or 2 if you can't fit a hand in comfortably.
