How much with solids?

My dd is 7m and loves her solids. She also gets 5 breastfeeds a day and doesn't seem ready to drop any of them except the last-thing-at-night one, which we're going to try dropping this weekend. Trouble is, she's very difficult to feed: thrashing around and yanking at the nipple, and my boobs are constantly bruised and scratched. Also I can only give her a full feed lying down in a quiet room, otherwise she's just too interested in the world. It's very restricting, it feels like we're back to newborn stage where the whole day is taken up by feeding and sleeping. I'm getting stir-crazy, and so is ds. Has anyone got any idea how to get dd to feed more placidly/more efficiently/less frequently?

Yesterday thrasherette had a bottle of formula for her bedtime feed as I was out. To our surprise she took nearly 8oz - yet she still woke before 6am shrieking for a feed. So no point giving her a bottle in the hope that she'll sleep longer. I've been trying to feed in different rooms and chairs and have found that there's slightly less thrashing and pinching if I sit fairly upright. Don't know if that helps, Nome. I think the reason they chuck if 'forced' to feed (I know just what you mean!) is that they're taking in so much air while feeding because of all the thrashing. On the other hand, dd has always been a champion chucker, even when she fed placidly.

B&G, the only place I can feed now is in bed. Even sitting in my fantastically comfy glider his legs hang so far over the sides that he's always squirming to reel them in (elastic houdini baby). At least in bed I can guarantee two feeds a day! Ho hum.

Thanks Aloha. I assume he's getting enough as he still seems to be thriving, but it is annoying that he wants so little from me! If I cut down on his solids, he just wakes more often in the night to complain.

Ironic, isn't it. I could only feed in bed, but now find it better to feed sitting up, and you seem to have exactly the opposite!

How is Thrasherette doing, B&G?

Not so little Thrasher drew blood yesterday little sod. I managed not to drop him but it was a close run thing...
