DS has self-weaned!

I no longer breastfeed. DS had his last feed last Wednesday. On Thursday, he cuddled me, then looked through his legs at me and laughed. On Friday, he pointed at the animal print on a pillow case and made various animal sounds and did the sign for fish.

On Saturday, I didn't offer at all. And on Sunday, I had a nice green leaf.

So until January, that's it - my breasts are mine...all mine!

It's quite surreal really. He signed for milk last night and he meant milk in a beaker! LOL!

At bedtime, I mean - I'll have none of this milk in the middle of the night malarkey

There's hope for dd then! Although she's showing no signs...

Like the nod to the hungry caterpillar

hunkermunker · 30/08/2005 16:52

DS showed no sign of weaning - he was asking for milk during the day last month. Then he willingly dropped his last feed, but still really wanted his first feed. Then he dropped that, again willingly - took about a fortnight, I think.

I did nothing to either encourage him to stop or continue - once I got to a year, I felt any extra he had was a bonus rather than a necessity. I think being pg may have changed the taste of the milk though - he did look puzzled occasionally!

HD - wondered if anyone would pick up on that

Are you telling me to get pregnant?

Only if I can have a ticker!

sweetkitty · 30/08/2005 17:17

My DD stopped at 11.5 months, she was down to just the morning feed and one morning she never woke for it and had a beaker of milk instead, it does feel sad in a way.

In some ways it is nice though to have your boobs back even if it is only for a few months. My DD has completely forgotten about ever feeding from then and kind of pokes at them when she sees them now.

HM - I'm going to have a 17-18 month gap eek! Don't know if she'll want a go when she sees the baby feeding though.

nikkie · 30/08/2005 19:53

My dd1 did this when I was pregnant with dd2.
I had only just found out too so only 4-5weeks.She was 13 months old. There is 21 months between my 2 and they are best friends and aer great together!

moondog · 30/08/2005 19:57

Aaaaaahh Hunker!
End of an era and the start of a new one!

XXX

hunkermunker · 30/08/2005 23:23

It's funny, I thought I might feel wistful or something. But I don't!

SK - yes, I wondered if DS will remember when he sees the bay feeding?

Nikkie, am always happy to hear stories of siblings close in age being really good friends!

MD - I know! He's growing up - lol!

Wow, we both stopped in the same month. Are you sure you are not me (except the pg bit - but my pants are getting tighter come to think of it - oh yes, that'll be cake).

bobbybob · 31/08/2005 10:55

No wistfulness (is that a word) here either.

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 11:10

LOL BB! Not the first similarity, is it?!

How is Bob? Still utterly adorable?

There are 26 months between ds1 and ds2 and they are the very best of friends, hunker. ds1 is very protective of ds2, i.e no one is allowed to thump ds2 except ds1! Months after ds1 had weaned, he looked at my breasts and said "bolly" which was his word for bottle. He was about 18 months old.
