Help - How to wean a 2 year old?

Hi,

I'm pregnant and I would really like my DD2 (2 years today :))to stop breastfeeding. She can feed from 3-5 a day and that doesn't include nights. What is the best way to wean her? And as quickly as possible?

Thanks!

Surprised no-one else has replied yet.

With my DD, if she asked I told her the boobies were asleep and offered water instead. She didn't cry which I took as a sign she was ready.

I thought about saying it was all gone but thought that might make her a bit sad.
She was only feeding at night though.
What does she do if you just say no?

With DS I just stopped offering at around 2 years 2 months. When I say stop offering it also meant wearing a top for a couple of weeks and giving him to DH to hold at times he would have been used to a feed. He didn't ask if he didn't see my breasts.

i cut down to 'only in your pyjamas' ie first thing in the morning and before bed, and then at about 3 months pg the milk was pretty much gone anyway - this was proven by her stopping feeding to have a drink of milk from a cup during her pre-bed feed - it's thirsty work this breastfeeding you know...Grin

Thanks for your replies :)

Stargirl, If I say no, she cries. Sometimes, I manage to distract her and she forgets about it.
I planned on yesterday being the first weaning day and telling her that boobs are closed for the day, and they work only at night (making a gradual weaning). But she got sick and I didn't think it's a good time to start.

Has anybody tried putting something like, a bit of mustard or something that might put them of the breast??
