my DD is 2.6 and has a bottle at night still she hasnt had a dummy for about 6 months but i cant seem to knock it on the head either i am trying but like u bumbly think it is just comfort thing, try cutting out the morning 1 first maybe, as it may be abit easier for him when they go altogether, think im going send my DD's bottle to father christmas... her dummy went to the easter bunny!

if drinks in a gulp and teeth brushed right afterwards i don't think its a problem for teeth, just at three a bit babyish.

seeker · 24/08/2010 08:34

Why on earth is 2 bottles a day bad for their teeth?

If she likes it and it makes her happy, let her keep it. I think it's daft (sorry) to talk about things being "babyish" when they re only 3. Why shouldn't they be "babyish" sometimes?

horseymum · 24/08/2010 12:04

bad for teeth if you don't brush afterwards ie leave child with bottle to go to sleep.

Don't worry, I've just had a visit from the HV as we are new to the area, when she asked about bottles I said yes she has one morning and night. She looked at me in horror and said "well you need to think about getting rid of them".

I just said I wasn't bothered, she doesn't drink milk otherwise, we got rid of dummies 6 months ago (v traumatic), just moved house and DC2 due in 4 weeks so I'm sticking with letting her have some comfort.

seeker · 24/08/2010 14:10

Well, of course it's bad if you leave them sucking a bottle all night! But this seems to have led people to think that having your night time milk in a bottle instead of a cup is wrong - and it isn't! It would be just as bad if you left them sucking a sippy cup all night.

mine brUshed teeth after his bottle always!

No problem then. There isn;t soemthing magically damaging about milk out of a bottle - its just uncleaned teeth that are the problem.

ANd this bizarre obsession with them growing up as soon as possible.
