BFing and antibiotics - avoiding thrush

fifitot · 21/08/2010 22:31

I am taking ABs for a nasty post childbirth infection and while the tablets are safe says GP I am worried about thrush.

Any ideas how to avoid it? I am going to have alive yoghurt every day so hopefully that will help and thinking about getting hold of some probiotic drops for baby.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks. Though the sugar/yeast and carbs is currently mostly my diet!

The probiotic capsules are far better than the yogurts TBH - you can get a good mix of probiotics and at far higher doses.

Obviously remember to space them out with the antibiotics so you're not killing them off as you take them!

OPerating "scorched earth" policy on bras, etc might be good, to make sure that you don't encourage any thrush that's there. So change breast pads frequently and hot wash bras, with some tea tree oil in the water if handwashing. Plus clean your boobs well and hot wash flannels, etc frequently.

Thanks - will get some from Holland and Barret today and great idea about the bras. They do get a bit soggy from time to time!
