i was diagnosed with a blood disorder while i was pregnant with my second child and it was recommended that i take asprin while i was pregnant and then clexane injections everyday for 6 weeks following the birth, my doctor wants me to go back on asprin now that i am finished the injections , but i have read up on this and every book says that asprin can cause liver damage to the baby if it is taken by a breast feeding mother. i dont want to give up breastfeeding but i dont want to risk getting ill either! any advise?

The issues are discussed here, dunne - toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT. Just do a search on aspirin.

Seems like stopping bf would be a sledgehammer to crack a nut....but maybe there is an alternative med to take with no presenting worries at all?

dunne - I have a similar issue. I take clexane 2 x daily when pregnant plus junior aspirin 1 x daily and when not pg take warfarin and will do for the rest of my life.
Warfarin whilst bf is safe (and so is clexane). is there anyway you can talk to the dr about using these medications whilst bf? I know they are stronger than aspirin but a very small dose would do the job for keeping you safe and be fine for baby.
