Oats at 10 weeks? Pressure

I've posted a lot about my son's feeding issues. He's currently eating about half the recommended amount for his size/ age. His weight gain veers from static to slow. He's gone from 75th centile to below the 25th in around 5 weeks. He screams during feeds and appears very uncomforrable. I'm going back to the gp to ask for a refferral, they've tried gaviscon and soya formula so far which has cleared the diarrhea but he's constipated now (not badly).

MY husband is basically accusing me of being a bad mother as I won't give him oats (boil oats for a long time then feed the liquid after seiving the lumps). This is his mother's idea that it's the solution to everything and her kids thrived on it. I won't do it, I want to know what's wrong, not just keep guessing. Also it just doesn't feel right.

Who's wrong, me or him. We've had a row over it and he's left because I won't let him feed ds the oat milk.

You could always try another GP appointment to ask about constipation in babies in general and if there's anything you can do. Do you ever offer him cooled boiled water?
Lots of babies I know have dry skin/rashes. Again asking a GP about that might help - some of my friends have been given specific creams to use. Dd and I have so far been lucky on that (for her, my skins rubbish!) but like I said, loads of babies get it.

Well I got so annoyed with soy that I tried a last ditch attempt at normal formula with another brand yesterday....he's been on it a day with no ill effects so far! Cross your fingers! Normal poo this morning, no screaming, little gassy but not uncomfortable just farty. Slept happily and ate a good amount. I tried it as constipation was ridiculous and even if I ordered another special milk it would take a few days to arrive. Skin's no worse. I'll keep an eye but seems fine. I have no idea WHY but I'm really hopeful. All the other brands have come out the other end in under a minute and caused big stomach cramps nearly straight away. Even if it's not perfect it might for now be better than the soy.

He's not a water fan, took anything as a newborn but now doesn't like water/ very dilute juice/ dilute tea/ sugar water (yes I was desperate..).

Ooo that's amazing news. Fingers crossed for you. Which one is it?
Mine won't take water or diluted apple juice either (and she's on solids now so she needs to). Haven't tried sugar water... I'll remember that one!

beccas GP's CAN prescribe more for reflux, so don't be put off. Alot don't have much knowledge but push for something else as it takes a week or so to start having an accumulative effect.
My DD (4m) has severe reflux, is now on Gaviscon, Omeprazole and domperidone. Also now under the care of a consultant paed, who increased her omeprazole from the low dose GP gave and added in domperidone 3-4 weeks later.
DD is dairy AND soy intolerant even though I'm BF. If I so much as sniff dairy or soy, she's in pain & screaming for a day and gets a scaly excema type rash on her scalp and face.
Ask for allergy testing ASAP. Alot of reflux babies are intollerant to soy also.

I'm a bit annoyed with dietician referral. The form was done last Thursday morning and handed to hospital reception. I was told they'd call to arrange an appointment. It's been a week and a day with no call. I don't expect the appointment yet but I would expect a call to make one.

I don't know about paediatrics but certainly in adult services there are very few dieticians/support staff and I wouldn't expect you to have heard anything yet. You could call on Monday to make sure the relevant department have received your referral, and they should be able to let you know how long you are likely to wait to receive an appointment.
I know it is rubbish for you as you need this sorting but unfortunately NHS is so overstretched in almost every area. I used to deal with referrals and to be honest with you even urgent ones took about three to four weeks to process. Also they frequently get lost in transit or have not been correctly completed by the referring doctor!
My advice would be to call on Monday and enquire, but be nice as pie to the admin officer who makes the appointments as the system sucks but it isn't their fault! If no joy from there you need to push GP to sort it out. Good luck!
