Growth Spurt ???

My 16 week old DS has been on a feedathon day and night for the last 5 days. On average 2 hours is the longest between feeds even during the night. He is feeding for same length of time at these feeds as he had been when he was feeding 3 hourly.
At the start I thought it was a growth spurt but previously the longest they lasted was a couple of days. Am now starting to worry about a lack of supply being the problem. How long can growth spurts last for?

I am almost certain it will not be lack of supply!!
I remember doing the 2 hour day and night feeds..it lasted years even though he was only a few months old!!! It will pass.

Thanks! DH is really convinced i need to start weaning but was hoping to hold out for another few weeks. If i can tell him others have had growth spurts that lasted this long he may ease off

It is not recommended to wean before 6 months and really there is no need to!

MichelleM, my DS (5 months now) went on a feeding frenzy when he was 16-17 weeks which lasted about two/three weeks. He fed three hourly during the day and started getting me up 2-3 times a night. On the advice of my HV, I moved him onto solids (he was 20 weeks by then) BUT he started getting horrible runny nappies and was really unsettled. I've therefore cut right back on the food this week and am only giving him a small amount of baby rice with a cube of fruit puree at teatime now and he seems much happier.

If you can wait a bit longer, I would definately recommend it and that's from someone who has weaned before the recommended six months.

thanks Busywizzy. Now my parents and inlaws are on the " give the poor child solids" bandwagon. Its great to get the support from Mumsnetters to keep battling on. Am totally knackered though!

Michelle, don't take any notice (I know, sometimes easier said than done). Another thing I forgot to mention was that DS started pooing in the middle of the night and they were god awful nappies. So take it from me, it's better to be knackered (which I am as well) from doing extra feeds than from having to change a nappy that has exploded out the top, bottom and sides resulting in a complete change of clothes and a wide awake baby .

You know what's best for your baby so go with it and don't be pressured by anyone. Good luck kiddo.

DS2 is now 25 weeks and went on solids this week as i go back to work next week.

He fed every two hours for months......including at night......
Solids have made no difference to him this week....infact he has been more unsettled at night.....record 9 times of waking up on wednesday night

dont be fooled into thinking that solids will make him sleep

Michelle, important to bear in mind that there are less calories in first stage weaning food (eg baby rice and fruit and veg purees) than there are in breastmilk,so this is soooo not the answer!!!

Keep at it,girl!
