Quick question about penicillin and BF

I'm BF my seven month old DS3, and am currently taking penicillin as i have a tooth abcess.

Started taking penicillin late Thursday night and take four daily due to stop taking them on Monday.

Once yesterday and so far four times today DS has been violently sick - the first few times it has been luminous yellow. He's not a sicky baby at all usually, and apart from that he seems fine in himself, babbling away, happy and contented.

I've only just remembered that the manshape is allergic to penicillin - is there any way he could have passed his allergy to ds, and could ds be reacting to the penicillin he's getting through my breastmilk?

I'm worried that this is the case and thinking it'd be wise to stop taking the penicillin and to go back to the dentists on Monday and ask him to give me something else.

WDYT?

Penicillin is safe to take when BF,but I would be slightly concerned about you OH alliagy. I had a friend at Uni who's mum was highly allergic to penicillin and therefore they wouldn't even try her on penicillin just in case she had an allerigic reaciotn to it.

I'm not sure if you should stop taking them, maybe ringing NHS direct would be a good idea.
I would deffiently go back on Monday though and see if they can give you something else. Plus mention it to your GP if you DS ever needs antibiotics as they may want to give them first in a controlled enviroment to see if he does have an allergy.

I'm allergic to penicilin (it's a really common drug to be allergic to) and I don't think it's something you can pass on (but I'm no expert on allergies - I'm just assuming that someone would have mentioned it to me during the course of my pregnancy/birth of my son. And neither my parents nor any of my siblings have the allergy).

The symptoms are the usual ones for an allergy (hives, swollen lips/tongue, running eyes but can be as extreme as anaphalaxis) but this site does say nausea/vomiting can be symptoms. TBH because he's not showing any other symptoms and seems happy in himself (bar the vomiting of course) I'd be tempted to keep an eye on him and keep taking the antibiotics. But that's easy for me to say - I'm sure if my LO was vomiting I'd be as worried as you are! I agree with MigGril that perhaps a call to NHS Direct is a good idea.

Bile is yellow btw so the luminous yellow colour could be from that.
