I am bf ds3 who is 10 days old. i have so much milk and he is doing brilliantly as my boobs are still like melons and hurt so much i can't sleep very well between feeds. I am only doing one boob each feed and both empty after each feed but both are full by next feed.

However the real pain is my nipples. I don't remember this with ds2 - they are so sore feel like constantly being hit with electrick shocks, extremely sensitive to the cold.
I am pretty sure ds is latched on correctly and they aren't blistered anymore - could it be thrush? they are quite shiny and i have seen tiny white spots in ds mouth? I am so tired and prone to mastitas so paranoid about that.
Your advice is very much appreciated
thanks

From the symptoms you describe, it sounds like thrush.

Never had it myself, so can't advise about meds but i suspect a visit to the docs would be in order as soon as you can.

Mine felt the same with both DDs - like electric shocks or very sharp needles. Horrible. It stopped fairly suddenly both times - after 6 days with DD1 and after 9 days with DD2. I assumed it was just me getting used to bf - I'm sure my latch was OK.

One thing that helped me (suggested by the midwife) was holding the baby in a different position - rugby ball style (baby tucked under your arm if that makes sense?) Surprisingly it stopped the pain straight away and then seemed to allow me to heal.

Hi tortoisefairy - I have thrush and on medication for it. I hate to say it but your symptoms are similar to mine. I recommend that you look at the breastfeeding Newtwork leaflet on thrush (search for it on google), this has lots of info.

Good luck!
