9 month old only has milk at night - what to do?

I need some help! I went back to work when DS was 6months old. He is BF and refuses to take a bottle, and even 3 months on will only take 1 or 2oz of formula all day at nursery from a sippy cup and a little water. So to make up for it he's feeding all night - every 2 or 3 hours.

I coped for a bit with this, but am now massively sleep deprived and can't cope. But I can't just stop can I? DS won't be getting any milk at all. HV one recommended just stopping cold turkey and letting him get desprate enough to drink from a bottle or beaker during the day. HV 2 laughed and more or less said I had to put up with it.

Have attempted a wide range of bottles, formulas, expressed milk - nothing seems to work. DS eats well, how much milk does he need? All ideas gratefully recieved!

7oz of slightly sweetened f/f cows milk from about ten months, at about 10pm worked for us. You can cut the sugar down to nothing within about a week but it got a routine established.

Might be worth a try.

He still needs his milk, so I would persevere on trying to increase his intake from the sippy cup. Maybe if it's the only thing he's given to drink during the day he might take more in? Could you tell the nursery not to give juice etc? You could also incorporate formula in with his morning porridge and any milk-based cooking you do. Then make sure he has a massive bf before bed, both sides. Hopefully he'll improve soon

DS is nine months and won't take milk from anything except directly from the breast.

But - in the last few days he has started drinking water from this. It might be worth a shot.
