15 month old feeding all the time

Having told my husband don't worry he'll gradually feed less my ds3 has taken it upon himself to want to feed all the time. If I pick him up he lifts my top and whimpers.
He has three million razor sharp teeth and I do find feeding uncomfortable now so was hoping it would wind down a bit but it seems to be getting more and more.
I'm assuming its mainly comfort feeding. Is there a way I can discourage him without stopping him getting what he needs. I do't mind giving him a bedtime feed for example but 10 times a day and all night is too much. I don't want to give him a bottle though and feel at 15 months its too much.
help

My dd2 was a bit like this - turned out she had chronic tonsilitis. Sad Have you had his ears/throat checked (my ds was like this with his dummy - he has glue ear).

When you say 'you don't want to give him a bottle' do you mean formula/cows milk? I'm assuming he has other drinks?

yes I mean formula/cows milk as a substitute.

He does have cows milk as a drink occasionally instead of his water.

Hes also taken to trying to stand on his head whilst back to front and inside out while feeding which is never very comfortable

How long do you intend to bf for? Does he eat well otherwise ? (this was a big issue for dd2).

bronze · 08/08/2010 16:58

I haven't really thought about how long. Dh is growing more uncomfortable with it and has asked several times to which I reply he'll self wean soon enough.
I don't want to stop yet though as he is still very definitely a baby.
He seems to feed well otherwise, I've never been one to worry really as I think they eat what they need and have seen too many friends stressing when their babies are actually doing ok. I am on eof those slack parents

I was a slack parent too, didn't realise that dd2 was upping her feeds so much because her throat was too sore to swallow food! Shock Sad Blush

I bfed her until she was nearly two, by which time I was 20 wks pg and fed up with it. I did find it easier to wean her knowing that I had ds on the way.

Can you just give him a night feed and morning feed and then refuse him anything else? Does he need you to sleep?

How do you get on with distracting him when he gets fussy during the day?

I'm not very good Blush
Think I'll try and make more effort even if it means bribery to start with.
I don't think hes ill thought it may be because of teeth coming through

I think what happened to my dd was pretty unusual!

It's hard, isn't it?

RobynLou · 08/08/2010 17:23

I'm still feeding DD, she's 3 next week and I'm 16weeks pg... so I don't really know about self weaning yet, but I'm hopeful it will happen at some point!

she's down to feeding only v occasionally now though - she is happy to go and stay with grandparents for a weekend without me or my boobs, so it's not a big deal anymore really.

I'd definitely put it down to teeth, DD always upped her feeds when teething.

Blush I've jsut counted and he has 8 teeth eithe rnewly through or coming through. Poor mite. Problem is hes so laid back generally its passed me by. I'll put it down to that and see what happend when theyve calmed down.
