Double pumping with large boobs?

Seriously, how easy is it?

I'm currently using the Philips Avent manual pump and am looking to get an electric, but cannot decide whether to get a single or double pump.

I am a bust size J and just can't see how it can be easy to get both sides attached and going at the same time. Anyone have any experiences they care to share?

dont think to your milk supply what cup size you are, larger breast have just more fat mass. dont know weather you should try double or single, ive never actually heard of a double pump. Have you had your baby yet or tried expressing? I breastfed DS until he was 18months and was never able to express enough milk to fill a bottle so dont be too annoyed if you find you cant do it.

Double pumping is best in terms of boosting supply. Google hands free pumping and you'll see a website that shows you a nifty trick with hair bobbles so you can pump hands free.

I have large breasts (J cup atm) and used an electric double pump (Ameda Lactaline) for DD - I had to pump exclusively for her because she wouldn't latch on to me. It took a bit of practising but I was able to do it handsfree after a little while. You can get a big breast kit for the Ameda one which has bigger cups but I'm not sure it made much difference for me.

You need a hands free pumping bra!

See here or here for example.

You will be able to get some tips from the ivillage.com exclusively pumping board.

I did double pumping when ds1 was in SCBU. I was a G cup, it was very quick and efficient. Took 10mins to drain both at the same time, so just held each pump (so no free hand for 10 mins). But I had to express every feed for 4.5 weeks so that was quicker and more efficient. When I got home I just expressed to keep freezer stocked/for when away form baby, so I just bought a single electric pump which was great!

My HV got me a double pump (L cup here !!) and I had it for about 6 weeks - was a lifesaver.

Most embarassing moment ever though was when I was sat in the front room facing the window "attached" to pump when window cleaner came .....

tommee tippee electric pump (single)is on offer at asda £40 reduced from £80, ive just got 1 and its very quick and comfy but quite noisy!

my HV (well from surestart)let me rent 1 for 2 weeks at £10 which was great and thats what made me get the electric pump, alot easier than a hand pump,

you need an express yourself bra!!!!

website

bras

website set up by woman whose DS was born with cleft palate so he couldn't breastfeed. She double pumped for 8 months until he had corrective surgery and then manage to BF after that.

I met her when DD was 6 months and I was winding down. Her DS was older and she was just getting going.

CMOTdibbler · 03/08/2010 16:54

You don't need one of those bras - the lactaline balances quite nicely on a pillow on your lap once it's on, so it's easy to read. You just put one side on, then the other whilst the vacuum is on.

I expressed for a year, 5 days a week at work, so got v good at it

theskiinggardener · 04/08/2010 08:42

Thank you, I may well have a go with one of those bras. I find it takes 2 hands to get the Philips one attached properly when I'm pumping so was a bit concerned about how to manage that if I tried a double pump.

I may see if the HV's around here lend pumps so I could try it out before purchasing.

Honestly you DON'T need one of those bras at great expense- you need 4 hairbands. I used that method for ages til I got more confident and held the pumps in the crook of my arm and my hand so could do it one handed.

Thank you Thandeka. I was pretty certain that wouldn't work with my saggy less than pert boobs, but it does!

That could make double pumping possible, which could save me at least an hour, if not more, a day.

Thank you
