..how common is this?

Have had it with both DDs. I can only express and feed properly from one side - the other side barely does anything at all

I'm not sure, but hope I'll bump this for someone with more knowledge....

I have this too, my right one has just about given up on me. I keep trying to put DS on it, but he has a go and then gives up after a few sucks.

I guess it's not a problem- women feeds twins with one breast for each of them after all.

Yeah - I think I definitely have one "better" boob. It's slightly bigger, I can express from it (and not the other one) and the baby seems to prefer it!

Would also be interested in the reason why . . .

I think it's reasonably common. I had it too and ended up feeding dd one-sided, because she would only take from one side. She was fine

Around a month ago I noticed that the left breast was producing much less than the right. I started every feed on the left and put him back on when he fell off, several times, although I offered the right side after that. Once he was finished on the right I tried to get him to suck on the left again, and I offered him little inbetween snacks, on the left too.

A month later they are even again!

Even in pregnancy one of mine dribbled and one nothing.

I have fed DS on only one side since he was 3 weeks old (he's now nearly 8 months old) and he is fine. I am very lopsided, however, and it does bother me sometimes, but I'd rather just live with it for the time being and bf him than give up bfing.

I have heard it's very common for one side to work better than the other. My difficulties were due to a nipple abnormality though, so i think it's unusual to have to give up on the side which doesn't work as well.

My sister breastfed both of her children through one breast only - her DS was a grouchy baby and only seemed to be settled/happy on one side but then when he DD was born 2 years later she also only took from the same breast.

Both times she managed to feed for over 18months so no probs really.
