Tips for weaning a 2 year old

I have all of a sudden really had enough of breastfeeding my almost 2 year old dd - i have really enjoyed it till now and surprised myself with my sudden reaction to it, as had always thought would let her self wean but just am finding it really annoying and grit my teeth through the feeds.

so, i am ready to wean or at the very least cut down to just a bedtime feed.

can anyone share their experiences? I am conscious of the fact that just because i have had enough, she hasn't got tired of it yet! and not sure whether to go for a gradual approach - or will that just prolong the agony, would i be better off going cold turkey?

how did you explain it to your toddlers? she has good understanding, but how best to explain that i have had enough?!

any advice would be welcome!

I have a 22 month old and have just had to stop due to health reasons . anyway I went cold turkey last thursday and it has gone better than expected. he has a cup with a straw that he has instead of me and the first 24 hours were hard but j just told him mummy's milk had all gone.

Are you pregnant.

Anyway the best way to wean a two year old is plenty of distraction. You also need to look at your routine, for example if you always sit in a certain chair after lunch and breastfeed your child then you need to avoid sitting down after lunch.

Offer your lo a snack before they ask for a feed. If you do give your child a feed then limit the length of time they are latched on.

Whether its advisable to go cold turkey depends on how much your lo is feeding and your milk supply. The gradual approach is better as there is less risk of matitis.
