Aargh, I have posted about this before but I'm still worried about DS (9mo) not bfing enough - he got better but in the last few days he's doing it again - not sure if it's teething or what but he's not taking much at all.

I'm worried about my supply but am flogging a dead horse here? Should I start giving formula in a sippy cup and wind up the bfing as he seems to be telling me it's time to stop? I wanted to carry on until he was 1yr

9 month old babies don't self-wean - it's a typical period of disinterest that often results in weaning due to misinterpretation by mums. If you're happy to keep breastfeeding, keep offering. If you're worried, pump a couple of times a day.

My LO is only 8.5mo but has days where she barely feeds at all and I consider it a success if I can get her on long enough for let down (I have to have her latched to pump, it's a pain in the arse!)

Good luck

At nine months, they're so much faster at getting milk out, that even a short feed may well mean they're getting loads.

And of course, if you weren't making enough, and he wanted more, he would let you know!

so long as you're offering frequently, he should be fine, shouldn't he? my friend's DD is down to 2 feeds a day at 7.5 months though - some babies feed more than others, some less! and he could just be a very efficient feeder who gets all he needs very rapidly. my DS has gone through phases where I think he's cutting down, then has a mammoth feeding session a few days later - my supply picks up pretty fast also, could you try expressing if you want to offer him more milk?

Thanks all, I'm just worried about drying up as pumping only gets me an ounce or so in 30mins. I will persevere...I really don't want to use formula, I know it's not that bad but it's become a personal mission!

It is also normal for expressing production to go right down with well-established breastfeeding - the baby is better than the pump, the baby may well be taking less than before anyway('cos of not needing so many calories from milk) and this means a reduction in supply (though not any risk at all of drying up).

Breastfeeding production is really, really robust after the first months.

If you even stopped now, it would take a long time (weeks, in fact, even months) to have no milk at all.

Pumping isn't an indication of supply. If it was, my LO would be dead by now.

THANK YOU Tiktok, I was hoping you might pop in, that is very very reassuring. I used to get loads out.

Jemjabella, I'm glad you have the pumping issue too, I was wondering if it was just me
