Hello All,

I stopped feeding my DD 4 months ago - I bf exclusively for 10mnths.
There still seems to be milk in my breasts - will this go?

Thanks xoxo

hand express it out if it seems like a lot. it will not go on its own. i found there were still drops there for ages (ie up to a year) after.

I found getting pregnant again dried it up!

Thanks MumNW, if I hand express, will that not stimulate more production?

I think that there is something you can get from the GP which helps to dry it up?

I stopped breastfeeding in February and still have milk in my breasts. I saw gynecologist recently and he said I could have this for some years to come

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2010 20:25

Expressing will encourage production, yes.

This is perfectly normal and not dangerous at all.

Yes, there is a medicine that dries up your milk, but as it has been associated with deaths, it is only prescribed when the milk is causing a big problem.

don't express - that will only stimulate your body to make more.
If I squeeze I still get a few drops coming out - I stopped feeding dd 2 years ago .....

Eventually....I stopped four months ago as well and still get some leakage, especially when getting frisky with DH!

lol @ Octaviapink ...no no no no no!!

MumNWLondon, by the very mechanics of BFing and how it works, expressing it out will only encourage more to be made!

Just had a quick squint at kellymom, and althoughb I couldn't find anything on how long it'll go on, there is information on herbs to avoid when BFing due to their supply drying properties...maybe taking one of them will help things along? Might try some sage tea as we have loads of sage in the garden.

I know expressing will make more but I found that around 3 weeks after feeding last time my breasts were heavy, so hand expressed a couple more times around a week apart just a little to soften them. The amount produced after the expressing was less than was there IYSYM because although expressing encourages more to be make, once milk is there I don't think it "disappears". I still had drops there though perhaps even a year later.
