Reflux/ diarrhea bottle fed 7 week old boy

I'm double posting on two forms as I thought I may get different advice. My LO is bottle fed (stopped at 6 weeks as having problems, now I know this was a reflux issue, regret it but it's done).
MY little boy has just been diagnosed with reflux and given baby gaviscon. He was at the point of almost refusing feeds. I can't give him the gaviscon yet though as he has awful diarrhea, bottles literally run through him as he eats them. Took him togp yesterday and sent on to a & e with him and he started to take enough milk to remain hydrated (probably one feed over the entire day in small amounts) so they sent him home.

I just feel awful. He's so uncomfortable and struggles to eat. It's a nightmare combination. The relfux causes pain and stops him eating after an oz then the bug causes belly aches and what he does take in runs (or explodes in a froth) out of the other end. The only time he's happy is asleep so I've been encouraging a lot of sleep, but it's in short bursts because of pain. There has been some progress, it's gone from yellow water to some solid bits and he managed a wee last night.

I feel awful. My husband and entire family are also away this week so I'm completely alone.

Any ideas for bringing him some relief?? A & E said just keep giving milk, but I wonder a little as I find milk is the worst think ever on an upset stomach.

The correct advice is to give babies with diarrhoea their usual milk, so A&E were right.

Is going back to bf not an option for you? If you only stopped a week ago it would honestly not be hard to re-start....

He has never latched (now I know reflux added to problem), I was expressing for him and it steadily dried up until I got 10ml per express (down from 100ml). Now nothing at all. Attempting bf on top of this woud be a huge added stress considering I;m struggling to get his normal bottle in.

It sounds like the decision has been made regarding breastfeeding.

If I were you I would consider taking him back to a&e if he is showing signs of dehydration; and in any case, I would definitely make an appointment with the GP for as soon as possible.

Can you see a doctor about the possibility of milk intolerance? That might explain both reflux and diarhhoea. There are hypoallergenic formulas available on prescription if your LO can't tolerate the normal stuff.

strawberry, I see that a return to bf would not be workable...sorry, it wasn't clear from your post that you were struggling to express and that things were so bad at the end

I agree - it sounds as if your little boy needs a proper medical assessment. Hope he feels better soon.
