...Bristol! (according to the ABM magazine)

-The PCT is BFI accredited
-they have bf peer supporters and support groups
-cafes and restaurants sign up to say they are bf friendly
-BF promotion to teenage mums

Would be interested to see what the locals think??

I have been to Bristol a lot as I have family there I think it is great lots bf rooms that are not changing rooms and no one bats a eye if you feed there I had someone cut my pizza up for me, I was very impressed because he was only about 20 and most young men seem to get quite flustered.

Bristol. really.
Tis not buggy friendly. getting into olde worldy shops/cafes's with steep steps. Plus its very hilly.
If you lived in Clifton you could accidentally let go of your buggy and chase it all the way down the very steep high street, to the bottom ! Frightening.

I wonder do the bf rates go up in accordance with them having such good support network?

eskimomama · 27/07/2010 13:45

I suppose London is at the very bottom of the list?

StealthPolarBear · 27/07/2010 13:52

it didnt mention any other places, was just an article about Bristol being a baby-friendly city

Not sure there's much to be done about the hills Oblomov!

But yes, lots of BF support groups and lots of BF friendly signs up everywhere. I've also found midwives to be very pro-home birth here - it's just presented as one option for giving birth and there hasn't been any of the need to fight for a home birth that I hear about women in other places facing.

slushy · 27/07/2010 14:02

I have found it but it is a pdf I don't know if you can link a pdf so it is the top of the list here

StealthPolarBear · 27/07/2010 14:07

well done slushy here

I did look on the PCT site but no joy

In the UK? pah. We're protected by law here - got to trump that, surely - no need for cafes to sign up as the law says they have to be bf-friendly.

StealthPolarBear · 27/07/2010 14:10

good point!

eskimomama the midwife at the bf support group I went to recently actually told me that parts of London dominate the breastfeeding rate top ten!

Bechka · 27/07/2010 18:20

eskimomama I think it depends what part of London. Along Upper Street for example I find it baby friendly, as there are always other mothers who are breastfeeding in the cafes or wherever, so I find that quite positive and nice, I never think twice about feeding my baby along there.
