Talk to me about breastfeeding at a year ...

DD is coming up for 10 months and still breastfeeding

Am planning on phasing out the 10 pm feed in a few weeks but am happy to keep feeding in the day ( she only has 2 feeds anyway before i go to work and when i come back)

She has no milk in the day as i work FT ... Do i need to offer her cows milk or put it in her food?

What are the benefits of feeding past a year? I mean for me it is obviously the hob nobs for the extra calories i need

Tia

Benefits:

comfort for dd.
reconnection time for both of you if you've been at work all day.
There are still nutrition and immune system benefits, but I don't have any facts off the top of my head!
It's great for when they're ill, especially when it's the only fluid they will accept.

If you want to offer cows milk then do, but don't worry if she doesn't accept it. Find other ways to ensure her calcium intake.

Enjoy it, I find bf'ing at that age the most pleasurable

Thank you

Good point about when they aren't well

You're welcome

DS was a September baby so when we got to his 1st birthday I knew that I would carry on bf'ing well into the following spring so he would get an extra immune boost over the flu/cough/cold season. And it was great when he got the noro virus and wouldn't eat anything for about 7 days.

DS is 15 months, and we are still at it!!! I too work full time, and when we get home he has a little 'snack' and then at bedtime he has a half hour feed. He has never had cows milk and the only other thing he drinks is water
Never thought we'd make it this far but we are both happy about it!

Well done feeding for this long! I'm still feeding my 18 months DS and for me the benefits are -
The hobnobs! (or chocolate in my case!)
The feeling of closeness with my baby
The comfort he gets from it, when he's tired or upset
It's always ready - great if you're out longer than you expect and Baby needs a quick snack.
I think there may be long term benefits to the baby (boosts immune system) and mother (reduces breastcancer risk)

Thank you everyone

Will keep on with .... No reason to stop is there?
