Breast fed baby not wanting to eat!

My DD2 is now 16 weeks and for a few weeks now she has been very fussy about the first feed of the day. She goes on for a few minutes, then keeps coming off, straining to look around and when I try and put her back on again, arches her back and cries. Have tried feeding her in her room with the curtains still shut and quietly, as if it's a night feed. This worked initally, but am now back to square one - it makes no difference at what time she's been fed in the night either. She has also started doing it at other feeds unless she is sleepy. He weight gain is not brilliant so am not sure that she's getting enough and I find it so frustrating and don't know what to do. Help! Would really like to get her started on a bottle so I can mix-feed, but surprise, surprise, she gets totally hysterical at the mere sight of it!

dippy - search archives for 'nursing strike' and see if any of the posts ring a bell with you.

we had this - had to feed at night and before / after naps .

Same here, my dd (20 weeks) is exactly the same for her 1st morning feed unless I feed her within a few mins of her waking when she is still drowsy. Otherwise she is too nosy/distracted to feed. Same with daytime feeds, I've ended up feeding before and after naps and more during the night unfortunately. Hopefully its something they grow out of!

my ds has grown out of it at 9 months argh! he still has two/three feeds at night though. not complaining too much though - he goes straight back to sleep without settling and so do i!!

My DS is like this. My theory is it's because he equates breastfeeding with sleeping, rather than with hunger. He's not tired first thing, so won't feed. My first feed of the day is usually around 9am. No problem once I accepted this.

Ours also sometimes does this. Depends on how much she had fed in the night.
