dd4 has a cows milk protein allergy, so have been carrying on breastfeeding until now.

but i am 16 weeks pregnant, and feel very sore when feeding dd4. so am giving up.

but dd4 is not happy at all. full on tantrums.

i am replacing her breatsmilk with wysoy, but she wont take it.

we have tried alprosoy, oatmilk, and nutrimigen as well.

Did you have sore nipples in previous pregnancies? Any chance it will ease?

misdee · 22/07/2010 10:01

no i didnt. which has really taken me by surpirse this time.

we got through the night ok. she asked for a feed this morning, but i said no, so we had a big cuddle instead. she fell asleep on the school run in the buggy, so have left her to nap in the buggy so as not to disturb her.

I've been thinking about this - I'd just focus on the weaning for now and let then once you've got that sorted, the calcium part. If she likes humous, put tahini in a few other things, works well in peanut butter cookies, or just stir a spoonful into breakfast, plain biscuits, on a baked potato. Chop a few extra bits of broccoli stakes into dinner and give her seed and nut bars if she likes to snack on these (assuming she is not sesame and nut allergic too - I hope not - if so, smack me on the head for being useless!!)

misdee · 22/07/2010 13:59

she is nut allergic

today was better. she went to bed with no problems. asked for booboo a few times, but i said they were empty.

tbh i am wondering how much she was getting as i have no engorgemnt at all, despite not feeding now for 30+ hours.

That sounds not too bad! well done both of you!

I stopped feeding DS at 22mo for exactly the same reasons. Makes me wince just thinking about it...I found a tight bra or top helped actually, stopped clothes from brushing, ugh.

To stop, I avoided feeds as much as possible in the day, did no nap or bedtime settling for a few days then we counted down the 3 days to his last feed with him.

It was fine in the end- I told him that 'mama' was poorly and the milk had all gone and he understood. Asked a few times over the next week then seemed to forget which I was amazed about as he was mad keen.

I think talking to him about it a lot helped. Tantrums would have broken my heart, you sound v calm about it all. And she is gorgeous.

misdee, I went cold turkey with ds3 and ds4 at age 2.8 and age 2.0 respectively and they were both v. unhappy for two days and after that, they forgot all about it. I got engorgement after about 3 days IIRC! At that stage your body makes it to order as opposed to a constant supply, I think.

thank you hairymelons for knowing what i mean. clothing brushing is agony, removing clothing is horrible, inc undoing a nursing bra etc.

i have on my superdooper supportive bra, with extra scaffolding, and no pain until the end of the day when i get ready for bed. even getting out of the shower and drying myself hurts.

had a good night and morning. she attempted one dive into my pj's but was ok when i said no.

one upside is, she is eating more, which is a relief.

feeling a little bit tender engorment wise today, but not too bad.

Sefinitely invest in 'Adventures in tandem nursing, pregnancy and beyond' by Hilary Flower, even though you want to stop, there are the answers to every question you could think of. I breastfed until halfway through my pregnancy ( got terrible agitation as well as pain!) Its a great buy

katkouta · 23/07/2010 07:51

I meant Definitely of course

misdee · 30/07/2010 20:49

its going well.

i get one 'dive' a day when she tries to find boo for a feed, but have managed to distract her.

she isnt asking as much now, and i dont appear to have tramatised her for saying no more.
