Hi there, I have just taken on a lady due to have twins any day and am just looking for some tips on how you breastfeeeding mums got through the early days/weeks.

What made your lives easier? did you manage to solely bf and if so how much time did you actually spend glued to the sofa?

Is there something I can suggest to her to make her life easier? Sling for twins? Dual pump etc

Any suggestions greatfullly recieved

thank you.

Biggest key to making it manageable is to get both babies feeding at the same time. She is going to be feeding A LOT in the first six weeks, so a comfy chair, with access to all amenities ie, remote control, mobile phone, picnic coolbag with sarnies in it for if she gets munchies, large bottle of water. If one wakes for a feed, wake the other and feed both. Also, frequency of feeds is important in the first 24-48 hours to ensure a sufficient supply further down the line. If babies are poorly or sleepy, she needs to hand express rather than pump until her milk comes in. Do some research on feeding positions with twins, one under each arm is a good one, V shape also works while they are small, and lying down tummy to tummy one on each side works well. Keep a really close eye on positioning and attachment of babies, and if she does need to express, you can usually rent a double electric pump from your local childrens centre. Get info on cup feeding aswell, as this is a more BF friendly alternative to bottle. Avoid dummies if possible. Oh, and look up the local breastfeeding support groups and peer supporter network
