FF - Baby struggling to take bottle -advice pls

My 5 wo is exclusively formula fed (am not physically able to bf) but has become increasingly grumpy.
He was eating easily but now acts hungry but seems to be struggling to drink out the bottle. He's slurping at it and keeps refusing it then rooting for it again a few seconds later. Once he gets a bit, he manages to calm down and falls asleep but wakes up soon after squalling.
In the night, when he's still partially asleep he doesn't seem to have a problem with the bottle.
I suspect it's due to a wind problem and burp him as much as possible and he's on Infacol. He managed to sleep an hour this morning, crying at the same time- again think this is due to sore tummy
Any advice/suggestions?

my son was very poorly and under went surgery at 5 weeks (an aside) - at this point the hospital advised nuk bottles -as they are less windy. They helped my little boy with feeding.

we use Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottles and they have been brilliant. THe teat is very soft and its shape means the babies seem to feed much easier from them. THey are vented as well which cuts down on the amount of air taken in.

Infacol is ok but a bit hit and miss. Try adding some gripe water or dentanox to his forumla or if that doesnt help make his forumla up with a weak infusion of cammomile tea (1 teabag per litre). The tea has really helped DD's wind. In combination with the bottles (previously using Avent) her wind issues are pretty much resolved.

HTH.

have you tried a faster teat?

i just thought of something. Could it be thrush?

Check his mouth and see if you can see if there is a white coating on his pallet or inner cheeks. His tounge may have a white coating as well. Thrush will make babies fuss at feeding as it makes their mouth sore. When my DD had it she always fed better at the dreamfeed than when she was awake becuase of this.

If you think he does have a white coating get some Daktarin oral gel from the chemist and use it twice a day. He should latch on much better.
