19m has forgotten how to feed

Up til about a couple of months ago dd had been having a 20 min feed in the morning (while I lay in bed ), a very quick one before nap literally about 5 mins, and then a shortish one at bedtime. The only one that still 'works' now is the naptime one; in the evening she latches for a few seconds then gets bored and keeps bobbing on and off.

The morning one she still signs milk very keenly, but then doesn't latch properly; she holds on with her teeth (not biting, but definitely holding on) and kind of sucks the nipple, so it gets pretty sore pretty fast. When I take her off and say "No teeth" she gets cross and keeps signing, so I think she still wants milk but has forgotten what to do. There certainly isn't any sensation that she's actually getting milk out.

NB I'm about 9 weeks PG so this may have something to do with it - or is she just weaning herself off? I wouldn't mind of she did tbh, but the difficulty is that she seems to want it in the morning then gets cross when I tell her no that's hurting mummy. Any ideas for what to do? Is it possible to teach her how to latch properly again, or do we just bow out of the BF thing since there will be another baby wanting my poor sad boobs again soon enough!

I think sometimes a toddler's latch can become lazy. I've certainly had to teach my DS, 21 months, to latch correctly again. I just take him off when he is hurting me, and tell him to try again with a 'big open mouth'. He knows exactly what I mean but needs regular reminders.

Nothing wrong with teaching them some nursing manners I think, and to refuse to feed when they hurt you.

is she teething at the moment?

She's got all her teeth bar molars, and no sign of them coming so far (no pink cheeks etc) so I don't think it's that.

She knows about the big open mouth, but doesn't do the tongue over her teeth thing any more. Well, I guess of she's really keen for the milk she'll remember what to do...!
