Hey every one my name is Amy, hope you all are well.

I am reading the Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold at the moment and I find it an amazing yet very emotional book.

I was wondering if any one else is also reading it or has finished reading it?

Hope to hear from you soon
Take care.

Really disliked it too. No intention to see the film.

potplant · 09/02/2010 14:21

I read it just after a relative died and I was quite comforted by the description of the afterlife.

I quite liked the book but the bit at the end with the childhood sweetheart spoilt it for me

AshleyFanjo · 14/02/2010 20:51

I was very disappointed with how the book ended. I thought the first half of the book was a real page turner and I couldn't put it down. The second half just seemed to drag on and I thought the ending was just ridiculous.

Some people have mentioned the Time Travelers wife.... .grrr, I hate being reminded that wasted several hours of my life reading that trashy nonsense!

Ellie20 · 06/04/2010 14:50

has anyone seen the film and can you reccomend it?

Katisha · 06/04/2010 14:52

The book is awful and the film is worse.
I really do not recommend the film at all.

Basically the premise is that the dead have to work out their own version of heaven, if they can manage to leave the living to get on with things without them. Also your afterlife appears to be formed by your manner of death.

I found it incredibly depressing as a vision of the afterlife.

princesstatty · 12/04/2010 22:13

I didn't know that, it is awful. I couldn't read it, I got to th murder scene and was just crying so much I had to put the book down and the next day gave it to charity....

A good book is Jodi Picolts handle with care...brilliant.

princesstatty · 12/04/2010 22:14

I agree, time travellers wife...not a good book.I am an English teacher and I read alot of stuff...but that was...really boring.

princesstatty · 12/04/2010 22:16

anything by Jodi picolt is very good. Is anyone else a fan??

how can you call Lovely Bones - the book - utter tripe? Loads of people who've read it rave about it. Ar you talking about the film. I thought it was beautifully written and always remember the description of the cornfield as crayola blue. Afterwards I had to know how the writer could write such emotions and read LUCKY which explains a lot.

racingheart · 02/05/2010 08:39

I loved The Lovely Bones. Put off reading it for ages because of the subject matter - then couldn't put it down. And the ending really worked for me - after all the grief, to be left with that feeling of the world righting itself again. Brilliantly written too. But I just can't bring myself to read Lucky.

Just read this and didn?t find it a satisfying read.
Yes there were some lovely descriptive passages but they were interspersed in amongst very mediocre writing in my opinion. It could have been a really meaty novel, and there were characters who had more to give, but were sidelined and not given any real relevance as to why they where there. Yes sometimes authors give you the bare bones of an idea or character and leave your imagination to flesh it out, in this case I think it was more to add to the airy fairy atmosphere and that?s all I found it - airy fairy.

candyfluff · 20/05/2010 17:53

i read half of it and got bored but so want to see the film
its a nice idea - its comforting to think there is life after death

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 21/05/2010 23:11

sorry, but I thought this book was bloody awful rubbish! The Time Travellers Wife however, was bloody marvellous!
