Holiday reads

Can anyone recommend some good holiday reads. This year I have read and enjoyed.

Marian Keyes Walsh Sister series and sequels.

Honey Bee, Dawn o Porter

(I do like a lighthearted rom com as long as there is good humour and it’s not too slushy, Marian Keyes is good for this but I’ve read all of her books.)

Greenwich Park, Kathryn Faulkner.

The Push, Ashley Audrain. (I really enjoyed this but it’s quite a dark story for a week in the sun)

Flowers in the Attic, Virgina Andrew’s (I read the series and actually really enjoyed it)

Naomi’s Room (I didn’t enjoy this, my friend is suggesting Stephen King but I’m not sure)

Have you read any Liane Moriarty? She has loads of great books which are perfect holiday reads. The Husbands Secret is a good one to start with.

My best reads for a holiday are:
Circe by Madeline Miller. It's a retelling of the Greek myth of the witch Circe; it's not too heavy, there's drama and romance in the story, and you really empathise with her.

The Five by Hallie Rubenhold. This one is a bit darker, it explores the lives of the five women we know were killed by Jack the Ripper.

Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. This is pure romcom, it's the story of Becky who does actually have a genuine addiction to shopping. Hilarity ensues as she gets into scrapes, but it also explores the anxiety that comes with debt and addiction in a really interesting way. There's a full series of these books following her, but I also love Sophie Kinsella's standalone books like The Undomesticated Goddess (a high powered lawyer finds herself working as a housekeeper despite having no skills whatsoever).

Thankyou, I’ll take a look at all of these!

Jenny Colgan does some good easy to read rom com style books.

I’ve recently enjoyed a couple of books by Ruth Jones (Nessa in G and S).
Love Untold and Never Greener.

You could try Beth O’Leary – The Flatshare or The Switch, they’re light, funny and easy to get into. Also Sophie Kinsella still holds up for holiday reads if you haven’t tried her yet. If you want something with a bit of mystery but not too heavy, try The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena – quick read and keeps you hooked.

If you want something light and funny for a holiday, I’d recommend Sophie Kinsella’s rom-coms. They’re humorous, easy to read, and don’t get overly cheesy.

I listened to the Flat Share when it was on BBC sounds and enjoyed it.

Bandit Queens - funny and empowering! About a woman who’s neighbours in the village think she bumped off her husband, and is now free… and want her to help them do the same…
