As book group host it's my turn to choose our next read, and I am looking for suggestions/inspiration.

We have recently read Mrs Benson's Beetle, Remarkably Bright Creatures, The Mad Woman's Ball, Yellow Face and Butter (which wasn't liked as much).

Please hit me with any ideas of titles we might like. TIA.

We’re doing The Names by Florence Knapp this month - thought it was incredible, looking forward to the discussion

Lessons in Chemistry. - I was given it- not something I would ever have picked up but it’s now one of my favourite books.

I do love all the books by Peter May. Full of mystery and intrigue and well written. https://amzn.to/3HFqpCg

I’ve just read How to Stop Time by Matt Haig and really enjoyed it. Lots of historical references and really thoughtful.

The Wedding People, by Alison Espach. A funny poignant tale of a woman who goes to stay in a seaside hotel, finding that she is the only non member of a wedding party. She becomes friends with the bride who is feeling unsure. Mostly hilarious.

The List of Suspicious Things by Jenny Godfrey

Gosh I (and all my book group) thought this was dreadful.

The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri was beautiful and moving, with excellent things to discuss.

Murder Most Haunted. My book club loved it. Cosy and funny with a bit of darkness and emotion.

I don’t know anyone who liked Butter!

I’m reading a lot of Japanese and Korean fiction and the two I’d recommend from that are Pachinko (written in English by a Korean American author) and There’s No Such Thing As An Easy Job (Japanese).

Otherwise, I think The Examiner was a return to form from Janice Hallet.

My next choice is Bel-Ami by Guy du Maupassant. I've loved lots of his short stories but my book group don't like short stories. This is one of his few novels. I've read it twice now and can't recommend it highly enough. It's a fairly easy read for experienced readers, and a lot of fun.
