Looking for recommendations for an uplifting, positive book with no death in it. One of my book club friends has recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness and so I'm looking for something lighthearted for us all to read next month. Thanks in advance!

I'm so sorry. What an incredibly sad situation for you all Flowers

Cotillion by Georgette Heyer
Up the Garden Path by Sue Limb
According to Mark by Penelope Lively

All a bit old I suppose but so, so enjoyable. Up the Garden Path made me laugh so much.

My book club thoroughly enjoyed Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams (a bit more up to date!)

P. G. Wodehouse, Right Ho Jeeves. It's just pure beauty. The man was a master of the English language. In fact, when he died some critics compared him to Shakespeare and Keats.

In Wodehouse's world there is no death or sadness or loneliness. Somebody once described it as 'pre-lapsarian' (meaning like Eden before the Fall).

I usually pick up an Alexander McCall Smith if I want something uplifting and enjoyable.

Perhaps also Barbara Pym or Anne Tyler.

I know you said no death but the Thursday murder club by Richard osman is brilliantly written, funny, intriguing and about close friendship.

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simson

But I'd also go with Wodehouse, Pym, McCall-Smith.
