Latin American fiction?

I've just finished rereading One Hundred Years of Solitude, and I adored Love in the Time of Cholera.

I was also recommended Like Water for Chocolate and I couldn't put it down!

Can anyone recommend anymore?

Have you read anyting by Isabel Allende? You could try House of the Spirits or Eva Luna.

Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo. Easy to read, short, hypnotic and compelling yet impenetrable. Big influence on GGM.

Also Jorge Luis Borges short stories

Isabel Allende, for easy reads. I enjoyed her earlier books (eg. The House of Spirits) more than the later ones. I felt they got a bit repetitive in style, but must try her most recent ones.

Mario Benedetti is also great. Do you read them in Spanish? Not sure how many are translated into English though, or the quality of the translation.

I've also enjoyed Zoe Valdes, a Cuban writer. In fact, it has been ages since I have read anything by her. Time to change that....
