Considering Shiplake for my daughter post GCSEs but concerned about the house mistress. DD is a rower and has heard that the house parent team for rowing girls are quite arbitrary in imposing all sorts of rules. In honesty they sound like women who don’t want to have inconvenient girl lodgers. Both are quite new in post I think.
I know DC can exaggerate, does anyone know how the school monitor kids’ feedback? Assume they do anonymous surveys or something? Or any experience? I’ve heard stories of lovely kind house parents at other schools so this worries me a bit. Shiplake seems like a really good fit for weekly boarding apart from this potential issue and I don’t want to write it off on rumour. Or any other suggestions of good rowing schools with kind boarding house pastoral care? It would be her first time living away from home and we would o only want to do it if it was a positive experience.
