taking friend of our child to holiday or other activity

My son 15 yo was invited by another family to spend some time in UK jholiday.

We're thinking about a few ideas to invite that frined with us
I'm curious how other parents have handled this.

If you've taken your child's friend on holiday:

  • How did you organise it?
  • Did the friend's parents contribute to the cost?
  • How did you deal with supervision, spending money and expectations?
  • Would you do it again?

If you decided not to take friends, what worked well instead to make the holiday enjoyable for your teenager?

I'd love to hear what's worked (or not worked) for other families before we start planning.

You may get more responses if you move this from “Boarding School”. Personally, I’d start by asking your son what he would like to do with his friend, and what he enjoyed about the trip he went on.

We took DC1’s friend on holiday abroad. We asked the parents to pay for the flight but other than that nothing because they took DC1 on a UK holiday.

We left the spending money to the parents.

No issues with supervison and expectations - the child knew us and we knew them because they had visited our home many times so we were confident that they knew how to behave. I would say getting to know the child in advance is probably key to having a harmonious holiday. It’s very helpful for example to have some idea of food preferences and what their family is like.

Did you post in the boarding school topic by accident? Or are you asking about inviting a boarder somewhere?
