Boarding with least amount of screens and youtube

Which boarding schools have the least screen access? We keep talking about social media and phones but that doesn't include youtube. I basically need a boarding with zero accessibility to youtube during class times and monitored in the evenings at the least. Some kids have q real problem and I see doomsday coming quickly! Youtube has become the lazy teachers way to teach and often thr surface boards still allow kids to sneak off and click different sites during class.

It's exhausting.. I am continuously hassling our state boarding to be stricter with phones and the times kids can use them. The parents all agree but the school uses them as cheap babysitting..

@MrPickles73 Winchester , I would avoid at all costs. They talk a good talk before you start but they lack the will or interest to see it through.

The battle of the screen/phone with kids is a nightmare and when kids are at boarding school then school really has to take on the parents' role. They can't ignore stuff like this.

It’s all very well the school having policies and monitoring in place but, if the children have secondary devices and data or VPNs, there’s very little a school can do. Also, be realistic about how aware boarding staff can be of your what your DD is up to. You can have much more supervision of her at home and then she will have in a boarding house.

There's alot of VPN action at our boarding school..

How much supervision and / or help does your boarder get at their school?

Our DS2 has just been diagnosed with dyslexia and I'm concerned whether / how well he will be supported through GCSEs.

Oundle no longer allow secondary devices. It’s the school provided laptop and nothing else. Internet phones extremely well monitored. I have no doubt that some kids will try and sneak devices on but woe betide them if they get caught. The sanctions and stress are such that virtually all give up and just roll with it. Everyone is in the same boat after all as each house is full boarding with no flexi . My dc year groups ended up having designated meet up places that their year group would naturally congregate outside of lessons every day. Quite charmingly old fashioned really. Unless they could be bothered to fire up a school
laptop and send an email (they couldn’t !) they just went with pre designated plans. Girls seemed to try harder for longer circumnavigating device rules but from this September, Oundle are going far more strict with school provided devices only on school controlled WiFi. No YouTube ever and no SM channels like SC and whatever else the kids of today like.

They have successfully cultured an ethos countering the modern day youth additction to social media. Some children will find these policies extremely anxiety inducing if they arrive too addicted to their smart phone. The school just won’t have it and sanctions are progressively very severe for being caught which is why parents must buy in to the schools strategy and not provide subsidiary devices ….parents must play their part in the policy. It’s lazy to leave it to the school alone.

All schools are required by law to have digital safeguarding, however generally what that looks like is reports being sent to the DSL for them to pick up - and this wouldn't necessarily include low level time wasting (such as watching generalised YouTube shorts) unless the content within that was concerning - eg a kid looking up making materials probably wouldn't be reported however a kid looking up Logan Paul's suicide forest video would be reported.
