Has anyone’s son taken the Election scholarship to Winchester College ? Any information would be gladly received.
Thank you

Yes! It is pretty challenging but he loved the process (staying at WinCol, spending a few days with other applicants) and really enjoyed the challenge. The past papers are on the website and give the best idea of the level required and types of questions.

@Winchie Did your DS take up a place in college? We have a place for 2027 at both Winchester and Eton and are still making up our mind on which is the best for DS.

His current headmaster said he is likely to be offered a place in college at both.

@Winchie our head believes DS is capable if he puts his head down. I should not of told him he has an unconditional place tbh !
I would like him to go for it! do you think it is more out of the box questions rather than out of the books study questions ? I will look up the sample papers . Thank you

@SleepyLabrador you answered my question !
you described my son to a T !
I am going to try and put him to the test very gently he believes why do I need to do the scholarship when I have an unconditional place , he also said he doesn’t want to be the odd one out !

@Winchie do they actually stay the night there ? And sit the exam over two days ?

Apologies for the late reply. Your ds can choose to stay onsite (if they sign up early enough) or stay somewhere nearby with you. I think it is 3 days. You drop them off in the morning and pick up in the evening.

I am sure the process can be viewed as quite pressurised, but my son and the boys he met seemed to enjoy it. There was a lot of chatter afterwards about some of the more esoteric questions designed to push them out of pure revision-heavy zones into creative application.

The roll was out! Good luck!
