Hi everyone,

I’d really appreciate some advice or first-hand experiences with Rendcomb College. My son is in Year 10 and we’re thinking about moving him there.

He’s a bright boy — quite academic when he’s engaged — and absolutely loves rugby. We’re looking for a school that combines strong pastoral care with good academics and sports opportunities. He’s not the type who thrives in an overly pressured environment, but he does well when teachers really know and support him.

Does anyone have children there or know what the general atmosphere is like? Are the pupils down-to-earth? How’s the rugby setup and overall sporting culture? And do they stretch the brighter students enough?

We’re also curious about the boarding side of things — is it friendly and well-run?

Any honest feedback or insights would be really appreciated — especially from parents with boys in Years 9–11.

It's absolutely tiny so I would say no from a sports point of view. With only 35/40 per year and being co-ed, that's about 15-20 boys per year- they are not going to be competitive even if they can get a team out. Also, boarders are a significant minority and given that there's a section for "international agents" I would imagine largely international. You really need a bigger school if rugby is the priority and my personal view is that I would only choose a school where boarders are the majority. Is location a consideration Maybe if you give us your geographic parameters we could suggest some alternatives.

There's also the matter of him being in Year 10. If you're looking for a move now it would likely need to be before Christmas to be considered as otherwise too far into the GCSE syllabus.
