Braces when dc living in two locations?!

Recently posted this elsewhere but was led over here… how do you manage dc braces when they are in school and then at home for the longer holidays?

Dc will actually be between two different countries and not always home (uk) in the holidays but will definitely be home in the summer holidays.

make all routine appts during school holidays.

contact school and ask, nurse, matrons where students get emergency repairs for braces.
it will be expensive for one off repairs but only option,

Invisalign might be better option as they aren’t fixed to teeth … but are more ££ anyway.

With my DC her appointments were about 7 weeks apart on average whilst she had braces so we managed to time them for exeats and holidays. Not sure if that will work for you though but that is what most people did.

I know with one of her friends it meant she had the braces on longer because she couldn't always make her appointments at the right times.

DD's orthodontist was really helpful in giving us a time table of when she needed to come in that tied into her holidays and letting us book the appointments way in advance.

Thanks all. This is reassuring. I’m now thinking to book dc into a U.K. orthodontist and worst case let the treatment be longer between being here then have an emergency one lined up in the other country.

I had Invisalign and kept losing them (much to my embarrassment!!) so no doubt dc will be the same @Qanat53 but thank you.

Long time ago now, but I had braces whilst at boarding school and home was a long haul flight away. Orthodontist was in the UK (school location). All my appointments were in term time and my boarding house matron would take me (at least initially, I was 16 when I had them off and was taking myself by then). Fortunately they never broke catastrophically whilst at home, I don't know what would have happened if they had! It worked fine although I did have them for a long time and expect that was at least partly because of the gaps in appointments when I was home, especially over the summer.

Depends on which countries your DC will be in. My DC has fixed braces and recently had a loose attachment whilst on an extended holiday overseas in Canada. We couldn’t find an Orthodontist who would “deal with another Orthodontist’s work” so had to get a temporary fix until home again. Boarding school may be more used to dealing with this type of situation, but Invisalign may be better to avoid complications.
